TWENTYNINE PALMS ROTARY NAMES THE “2019 BUSINESS OF THE YEAR”
At a brief ceremony March 13, 2019, the Rotary Club of Twentynine Palms named four new businesses in the downtown area operating under one roof as the “2019 Business of the Year”.
As part of the Clubs activities for the 2018-19 year, Rotary Club President Gary Daigneault proposed that the club honor a business of the year. The Board of Directors approved the proposal and Vocational Service Chairman Bob Clinkscales developed a set of standards and criteria for the award. The club, now numbering 29 members, were asked to nominate a business based on the criteria.
Nominations were received and reviewed by the Rotary Board who selected a quartet of new businesses, Rocky Mountain Chocolate factory, Coldstone Creamery, Surf City Squeeze, and 29 Souvenir and gifts for the inaugural honor. The four businesses are co-located in the former Auto Zone Auto Parts building. The owners did a major remodel of the building and the tourist-based complex opened in February in the “Four Corners” area at the intersection of State Route 62 and Adobe Road. .
Daigneault explained the selection. Saying, “We wanted to honor a significant investment into the downtown core of Twentynine Palms which went a long way towards rehabilitating the area. We were also impressed by the improvement it brought to the general quality of life to the citizens of Twentynine Palms. A visit to the complex reveals significant visitor business as well as a fun place for area families. The complex, is bright, clean, well maintained and well managed. The employees are friendly, informative and outgoing and are an asset to tourist retail.”
At its meeting of March 13, 2019, The Rotary Club invited Manager Erick Turner, who also supervised the construction of the complex, to be their guest. Turner had no idea why he was being invited. At the meeting Turner was presented with a beautiful plaque proclaiming:
“For your significant investment to the visitor experience and the 29 Palms Business district, Rocky Mountain Chocolate Factory, Coldstone Creamery, Surf City Squeeze, and 29 Souvenir are named the Twentynine Palms Rotary 2019 Business of the Year”
Turner was delighted with the surprise and the honor and thanked the club. The Twentynine Palms Rotary Club is a community-service based group of business owners, operators and professionals. The Club, chartered as the 900th Rotary Club in 1948, meets Wednesday at noon at the Little Church of the Desert meeting room. For information on rotary, Call President Daigneault at 760-366-8471.
