A FREE flu shot clinic will be held on Saturday November 10, 2019 at the Twentynine Palms Senior Center 6539 Adobe Rd from 10 am to 1 pm and is open to the general public.
Flu Shots will be provided for men, women (including those that are pregnant) senior citizens and children who are 3 years and older. A parent or guardian must accompany children under the age of 18. Children under nine (9) years old may require two (2) doses of flu vaccine (4 weeks apart) based on prior vaccination history.
Flu shots are the first step in protecting against influenza and potentially serious complications especially for seniors, individuals with health problems and children. With the CDC reporting over 80,000 people died from influenza and its complications in 2017, the most in four decades, individuals of all ages are encouraged to get protected now.
The San Bernardino County Department of Public Health Preparedness and Response Program will be testing emergency response plans at local Point of Dispensing (POD) sites during the influenza (flu) vaccination season. A POD site is a location where the community would go to receive lifesaving medication and/or vaccinations during a public health emergency.
The Twentynine Palms Senior Center is the local POD site which will be utilized to excercise plans and procedures for a local pandemic influenza response. The goal of the excercise is to test Public Health's mass distribution of vaccinations to County residents as a response to an outbreak or pandemic influenza, such as the 2009 H1N1 Pandemic.
