Birds, Buds & Bees ~ Spring Show at 29 Palms Visitor Center & Art Gallery Call for Art (due March 29)
“Birds, Buds & Bees” is the theme for the spring Art in Public Places exhibition at Twentynine Palms Visitor Center & Art Gallery in downtown Twentynine Palms. The show will be on display from April 6 through June 28, 2019.
Desert artists are invited to submit an original piece of art for possible inclusion in the group exhibition. Artwork will be received at the visitor center gallery on In/Out day, Friday, March 29, between 11 a.m. and 1 p.m. Artists unable to make this time can request an alternate delivery time by calling (760)367-3445 any weekday prior to March 29.
The theme celebrates spring in the Mojave Desert and can be expressed in painting, drawing, photography, mixed media, mosaics, ceramics, fabric art, assemblage, sculpture or other three-dimensional work. All work must be ready to hang with professional wire or mount on a pedestal, must be offered for sale, and must be suitable for viewing by the general public.
Outdoor art pieces—either wall-hung or freestanding—also are encouraged and will be displayed in the visitor center’s walled patio area.
The opening reception will be held for artists and the public on Saturday, April 6, from 2:30 to 4:00 p.m., as part of Art Cruise 29! First Saturday, and will feature music and refreshments.
In addition to the exhibition of new art at the visitor center this spring, Art In Public Places focuses attention on a favorite historic mural in Twentynine Palms--Mural #21, Neighbors in Nature II by Larry and Nancy Eifert. The mural can be seen on the west exterior wall of the visitor center, facing Bucklin Park. The mural scene highlights the flora and fauna that can be seen in the spring in the 49 Palms Oasis area of Joshua Tree National Park.
