*New Host, New Day for "Z107.7 Local Music Showcase"

After six years on Saturday evenings, the "Z107.7 Local Music Showcase" is moving to a different day with a new host. Singer/Songwriter and cultural activist Ted Quinn will be hosting the show which has now moved to Sundays from 4:00 p.m. until 6:00 p.m..

The radio show highlights the unique, distinctive and notably quirky sound of the musicians that populate the Morongo Basin. Each week Quinn will play nothing but local artists along with live interviews, live performances, and an insight into the local music scene that only an accomplished musician like himself can .

Ted Quinn moved from Hollywood and a childhood acting career to Joshua Tree in the early 90's, where he was instrumental in establishing the Rancho de la Luna recording studio with friend and collaborator Fred Drake. Over the past decade, Quinn has hosted thousands of performances locally in his weekly open mic's, as seen in the PBS-aired documentary; "Nowhere Now: The Ballad of Joshua Tree." The recently released "Mother & Child" is Quinn's ninth album recorded since moving to the desert he has amassed a songbook containing over 100 of his original compositions, "Things Worth Keeping."

Z107.7 Program Director Gary Daigneault said the move was made for two reason. The first is to allow the musicians featured on the show to enjoy hearing themselves on the Morongo Basin's number one radio station. The former Saturday evening time occurred at a time when they were working gigs at area clubs, bars, and coffeehouses. The second reason is to allow the programming on the station to flow with more continuity. The former Saturday slot was immediately followed by "Hot Mix", a four-hour modern up tempo dance mix show that was at times a jarring transition from the much more mellow and mostly blues-based local sounds.

Z107.7 personality Manny Flores will be acting as Quinn's producer for the show. Former "Z107.7 Local Music Showcase" host Mindee Jaye has moved on to new full-time responsibilities aboard the Twentynine Palms Marine Base, precluding her being able to continue with the show. Daigneault had high Praise for Jaye, saying, "Mindee will be missed very much by the staff here at Z107.7 and her many loyal listeners. She originated the show and skillfully grew it into a Morongo Basin institution, we wish her success and happiness."

Local artists who are interested in having their music played in the program or looking for an interview opportunity or live performances can contact Ted Quinn by Calling Z107.7 at 760-366-8471 or via e-mail at kcdzted@gmail.com. The "Z107.7 Local Music Showcase", Sundays from 4:00 p.m. until 6:00 p.m. is designed for those artists who actually live and/or perform here in the Morongo Basin. Musicians who are not licensed are required to give specific copyright permission to the radio station. Z107.7, with the most listeners in the Morongo Basin, is locally owned and operated and is one of the few commercial radio stations that encourage and give air time exposure to independent, local musicians.
