Four Make an Epic Ride

As avid participants in crossover sports, Daniel Bagwill and Shawn Callahan have been involved in various competitions and races throughout the United States; and have won numerous titles and events along the way. (For the uninitiated, crossover sports refers to a variety of sports that sit somewhere between church softball teams and extreme sports:  activities such as snowboarding, wakeboarding, and motocross.)  What they found almost as challenging as the races themselves, however, was finding casual apparel and accessories geared toward these sports.  Knowing that they were not the only enthusiasts facing this problem, Daniel and Shawn decided to open their own business in order to capitalize on this underserved market.  Daniel's wife Trinity, and Shawn's wife Jennifer, were also recruited into this new business venture.  Combined, the two couples possessed over 35 years of retail sales, customer service, and business management experience.

Measuring the Return of Your Advertising Budget

Advertising, within the context of the marketing or business plan, does the following:
Creates customer awareness of your product or service.

Reacting to the Economy

Economic downturn.  Market adjustment.  Recession.  There are many different terms (or are they euphemisms?) being used to describe the current state of the economy here in the U.S.  The common thread amongst all of the terms, however, is the picture they paint of the current situation in which many businesses find themselves.  Nowadays it is no longer David vs Goliath, the "Big Box" vs the "Mom and Pop", or Main Street vs Corporate America.  Across the board, businesses are seeing their customer counts, their sales, and their profits drop.  Companies are being forced to take a look at their operations, and determine where they may be able to trim some excess in their budgets and operations.

A Low Cost Training Solution for Small Business

In today's difficult economic environment, the business owner or manager must be knowledgeable in all aspects of running a business.  Operating a business requires constant updates on new legal requirements, business strategies, and innovative ways of doing business.

To assist you with the challenges you are facing, the County of San Bernardino's Workforce Investment Board (WIB) and Department of Workforce Development (DWD), along with the Inland Empire SBDC, are presenting a series of workshops on Human Resources, Customer Service, and Industrial Safety.  The County of San Bernardino believes that you will find these classes helpful and informative.  The workshops are informal, encourage participant discussion, and allow time for specific questions to be addressed.

Each of these workshops would normally cost $100 or more per person to attend, but through the sponsorship of the County of San Bernardino WIB and DWD these workshops are being offered at $30 per attendee (except for the April CPR/First Aid workshop, which is $40 per attendee).  Workshops are typically held on the second and fourth Thursday of each month. Visit
www.sbcountybusiness.com for a complete listing of workshops, topics to be covered, or to register.
